FRIDAY

Davina and Stephen in the park.

I had a problem with the car the last few days, the brakes weren't working properly and I thought - in the light of my recent experiences - I was being ridiculously over imaginative and paranoiac about brakes in general, especially as they felt just like the brakes in the rental car when I took delivery of it,  and I have been driving round the last few days feeling increasingly anxious as they seemed to be getting worse (although I don't have any warning brake lights on my car dashboard to alert me)

Anyway, yesterday afternoon I took it to Terry's and asked his Dad to tell me what he thought.  We didn't even make it out of the forecourt on to the road, as soon as Dad hit the brake pedal it went right down to the floor and he knew immediately what was wrong.  The brakes were bypassing the master cylinder and I needed a new master cylinder.   Which I've now got.

I know that I should never have driven the rental car with a warning light on, I was pushing my luck and I pushed it much further than I should have done, and in doing so I accept responsibility for making a bad situation a great deal worse.  However, I was always sure that there was an existing problem with the brakes when I took delivery of the Avis rental vehicle.  I told Terry and his Dad about the rental car and asked if the master cylinder could have been the original problem there and they said it could; overheated brake fluid was beginning to leak from my car.

I have to say that this afternoon my anxieties were centered more on the repair cost.   'Master Cylinder' sounded like a BIG DEAL, like  'New Transmission' .   However, it was $80.70,  so less than I feared.
