TUESDAY

Marie's parents.   A very sweet couple.

Well, I got the phone working in that I can make and receive calls.  I can't figure out how to programme it to speed dial my fifty closest friends, but never mind.

I thought - in my naivete - that I would just disconnect the old phone, and then connect the new one the same way.  But was life ever that simple?  The old one was plugged into an AC outlet but this one runs on batteries.  I thought at first the batteries were just for the fancy things (the speed dialling, setting up all the area codes etc. I know I said it was simple and basic but everything is relative, it is just simple and basic compared to the answerphones)  I could hardly believe that I needed the batteries to make the phone itself operative.  At least it should be alright in a power failure.  The old phone also had a different connection to the modem.

After that I spent the morning ringing up banks and credit card companies, letting them know I'm back, their Fraud Detection Teams like to know where I am so they can pick up on any unauthorised use of my cards, and there have been two or three cases of unauthorised use in the past, which is why they are vigilant.

In the afternoon I did my stint at the Senior Centre's reception desk.
