MONDAY

Until today all the tv programmes, round the clock, have been covering the hurricane on the east coast.     I was beginning to wonder what was going on in the rest of the world.  Today though, although there has still been a lot of the weather on television it is also covering the Election, and a bit about Libya.

What is outraging a lot of people - and rightly so - is that the Libyan rebels have said they will not send the bomber Al Mugrahi back to Britain.   What gratitude is that???  Without NATO forces the Libyan rebels wouldn't be anywhere near getting rid of Gadaffi.

The hurricane didn't wreak the damage expected in New York, but it has caused massive flooding, particularly in New Jersey, Long Island and Vermont, and so far 37 people over 10 states have died. And millions are without power.  It is as well it is not as hot as it is here - without air conditioning in this heat I doubt that we'd survive.   Electricity companies don't seem to be very good here at preventing power failures.

I have just been shopping and pottering around the house.   And knitting.    I did drive out to the new bakery/delicatessen place, although it is quite a way outside Shawnee.  It's exactly eight miles from the end of my road.  They have wonderful home made bread, but as it doesn't have any preservatives in it I have to cut the loaf in half and put half in the freezer.  And they sell real butter (when I got back and was unpacking my PG tips and custard powder I kicked myself for not bringing some Kerrygold with me; the butter in the supermarkets here is rubbish.  The real thing is too UNHEALTHY).   However, they had sold out of butter last night so I might go back in the morning for some (just shows how much people care about healthy)   Fuel isn't the price it is at home or I doubt I'd be doing all this running around.
