I rang Larry at the hospital this morning to see how he was placed; a deacon at Emmanuel goes there on Mondays but he will only go round one floor, and as Larry was still without the other Monday chaplain I called in and went round the other floor.
Larry is going to need more help and support as he and his family deal with his granddaughter's cancer. The news they are getting is not very encouraging. She was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 3. I thought she was 5 now, but she is 6 nearly 7, and has a big tumour in her chest, pushing against her lung, so is going through very aggressive chemotherapy, and the family are all keeping vigil round her bedside. Situations like this really bring home to one what is important in life.
There is a new place just opened in Shawnee, which is always an excitement. It is a bit like an ice cream parlour but healthier, it's all smoothies, frozen yoghourt, fresh fruit, shaved ice (I never have figured out what that is, perhaps I'll now find out). It was on my way to Walmart in the late afternoon so I thought I'd check it out. But while I have some familiarity with ice cream parlours, ie, I hang over the counters and select my scoops, this was all way too confusing with odd looking dispensers suspended over a line of basins, rather like in a rest room, and there were brightly coloured toppings in addition to the good stuff, the probiotics and fresh fruits. I decided I can't do this on my own, I am going to need someone to come with me and talk me through it. I invited Bruce and Rosalyn to The Marriage of Figaro at OBU on Friday, I'll suggest we go to this place afterwards.
I took a picture of the outside.
