Thursday/Friday

Thursday.....well, we had some rain, it was sheeting down early this morning (which is the only way it does come down).   I managed to dodge out though to Kiwanis at 8.30.  We didn't have a speaker, so discussed several topics ourselves.  We had earlier given the monthly certificates and trophies to the best two children from the Early Childhood Centre, and someone asked the member responsible what the criteria was in choosing them.  We were told they were not pretty little girls with curls who have ballet and piano lessons,  they are children who might never have otherwise have a trophy or certificate.  And seeing how thrilled they are holding them, being made a fuss of, I can appreciate the reasoning.  A lot of them come from foster families.

I went to Communion at noon, but didn't go on to lunch with the group.  Larry, the hospital chaplain, mentioned that he had a guest speaker at his Service at 1 o'clock so I thought I'd support that instead.  However when I got to the hospital the Service had been cancelled. I learned today, Friday, that it had been because Larry's grand daughter's cancer has just come back.  She is five, and it has been in remission since she was three.  It's leukaemia.

Friday......I went to the gospel singing at the Senior Centre, then on to the hospital.  Another volunteer, a local pastor, had done one floor.  I went round ICU then Pattisue and I did the other floor between us.

I spent a lot of the rest of the day reading and watching tv.

In the news.....(or my take on it)  The ferry from Libya to Malta carrying American Embassy personnel, which should have left on Wednesday, but has been held up by bad weather, arrived in Malta today.

My Democrat pals, who never watch the right wing Fox News themselves, don't understand why my tv is practically permanently tuned to it, but actually among the idiots there are some very good contributors and anchors.  The idiots though have been shouting the odds for the last few days because Obama hasn't said anything condemnatory about the Libyan uprising, he wouldn't even mention Gadaffi's name - to their considerable outrage - but it was obvious even to simple minded me that one wrong step would have endangered their lives even more.  While they were on the ferry waiting for the weather to clear they were encircled by Libyan military.  One wrong word and there would have been a hostage crisis like there was at the Embassy in Iran in the 1970s.  And if 300 Americans had been taken hostage in Libya we would have been looking at WWIII.

As soon as they arrived in Malta Obama shut down the Embassy, came on television, and is threatening all sorts.  So I hope the idiots are happy.
