It was Emmanuel's Annual Meeting today, so there was a lunch after the Service, which was lovely. The church brings in very tender, smoked brisket from somewhere, and people bring assorted vegetable casseroles and desserts. I took my latest signature dish of a dip with peas, lima beans, mint, olive oil, garlic and lemon juice which wasn't very practical, I think I would have done better to have taken a dessert, or perhaps the other latest signature dish of Nutella and Cool Whip. The church used to provide boxes of wine on these occasions but I've noticed lately it has been cold tea and soda, and coffee, but these are hard economic times......
Speaking of which. I had never heard of Anadarko until I looked up the Delaware Nation recently, but channel hopping yesterday there was a programme about it and the fact that it has the highest poverty rate in Oklahoma, which is saying something because OK is one of the poorest states in the nation. People are coming here to live from California because the cost of living there is getting too high.
After the lunch my practical friend, Sharon, came to look at my phone because I thought I'd bought a simple, basic phone without an answerphone, and couldn't understand why people were telling me they'd left messages on it. But she studied the instruction book and looked at the phone and confirmed that it didn't actually have an answerphone, so I don't know why it gives the impression that it is taking messages.
I was just sewing and watching television in the afternoon when Pattisue rang to see if I'd like to go out and eat, she hadn't eaten much all day. I said I'd had a good lunch but could manage a pancake at IHOP, so that's where we went.
The Republican Presidential nominations are hotting up, the also-rans are falling by the wayside and the front runners are emerging. Unfortunately, the only reasonable one among them - Jon Huntsman the former ambassador to China - has just dropped out. Which is a shame because the others are all more likely to wage a trade war against China. Jon Hunstman was getting a lot of flak for being Obama's ambassador to China. Donald Trump, the most vocal critic of China, has been noticeably silent lately, I'm wondering how long that is going to last.
During the last Presidential Election Larry was very ill so I wasn't really paying much attention like I am now, and am finding it actually quite interesting. I wonder what it is going to be like when Obama starts campaigning and the Republicans turn on him instead of each other.
