TUESDAY 9th January

I spent a lot of the day at the Senior Centre taking the Senior's Defensive Driving Course, organised by the American Association of Retired People - the AARP, which I gather is left wing, the right seem to hate them, they're always attacking them on Fox News.  However none of that has anything to do with seniors driving and I thought it was a good course.

At the end he asked each of us what in particular we will take away with us.  For me it was an awareness that when one is waiting to make a left hand turn (or a right hand turn in Britain) the wheels of the car must be pointed straight ahead, not turned to the left.  There was a serious accident recently, and six people died, because a car waiting to turn left at an intersection had its wheels turned to the left, a vehicle ploughed in from behind and pushed it across the oncoming traffic.  Had the wheels been straight the car would have just been pushed across the intersection.

The day got off to an early start because Daryl came to assemble my kitchen island for me before I left for the Senior Centre.  It was all finished when I got home for a lunch break, and I am very pleased with it.  It has got storage in it so I will probably be able to tidy away some of the appliances.

My poor foot hasn't had a lot of rest today.  And I have had to put on hold my walk across America.  It might be a virtual walk but I still have to put in the miles.
