SUNDAY 1st in Epiphany

I went to the beginning of the 10.30 Service at Emmanuel - I was reading the first lesson - but then went on to the 11.00 service at the small Methodist church.  Carla, the pastor, was interested in the Service of Lessons and Carols from Kings College Cambridge, and as Michael had sent me a CD of it he had recorded I wanted to pass it on to her.  I also passed on the piece of music Rosalyn had composed to be played on Sundays in Epiphany at Emmanuel, I knew she would be interested and Rosalyn was pleased when I told her I was going to.  They were both members of the local choral society before Rosalyn left.

The Johnson family invited me to join them for lunch which was pleasant.

After lunch I went to Walmart to buy a kitchen island.   I have got appliances on all my worktop surfaces; microwave; toaster oven (I hate using my great big electric cooker) food processor; electric can opener; juicer; blender; George Formby grill; electric skillet; kettle....there isn't much space left to prepare anything, so I have been debating this purchase for a while.  Finally I ran the $119 purchase price through the currency converter (which always makes things look reasonable) and decided to go for it.  Two Walmart employees had to load it into the back of the car and tomorrow Daryl, from Emmanuel, is going to assemble it for me.

The proceeds of the sale of this special licence plate help Oklahoma's Forestry Services provide grants for public tree planting projects.  I think they pay $37 for the licence plate and a proportion goes towards the project it supports.
Similarly, the proceeds of this licence plate would help the Scouting Movement, which is bigger here than at home where we don't seem to hear much about it.

I was reading that the Citizen Potawatomi nation was trying to revive its language.  Prior to the 1950s the Indian Tribes were treated very badly by the US.  The children were sent to boarding schools and forced to speak English, they had their mouths rinsed out with soap if they were caught talking to each other in their own  languages.  Consequently the language has been dying out, but classes are being set up to teach them.

Rosalyn was saying a little wistfully the other day that she'd like another kitty but Bruce stamped on the idea.  I sent her this photo and said if he ever relents she doesn't need to look far for one, she can just come and pick one off my porch.
