I admired the spring flowers as I pulled out of the Senior Centre this morning, and thought what a nice spring day, but actually it was 75, which is the height of summer in Britain.
I've been a bit preoccupied with health issues the last few days. It has been suggested to me that maybe I've become diabetic, as I feel so tired. I'll mention it to the doctor, my general physician, when I see him on the 5th April.
In the meantime, putting two and two together (and probably making five and a half) I spent the weekend wondering if my "broken toes" are diabetic neuropathy.
That is a complication of diabetes - over a period of time high blood sugar can damage nerves and blood vessels, and this damage often affects the feet and legs. Back in the day when I was a nursing auxiliary on a surgical ward I saw a lot of diabetic patients who had come in for amputations of their feet. With my imagination running riot like this it has not been a fun weekend.
I decided the first thing I needed to do was determine whether or not my toes are actually broken (and before the 5th April) so I have made an appointment with a foot doctor who will see me next week. I think these doctors (specialists) have offices in the City and just come out to Shawnee once a week.
It was also suggested to me this morning, talking to a nurse, that perhaps I am tired because I have an underactive thyroid. So I looked that up. These are the symptoms -
Common symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, constipation, fuzzy thinking, low blood pressure, fluid retention, depression, body pain, slow reflexes, and much more (how much more can one have!!!!)
I've got all them. I thought it was old age.
I will get my blood pressure checked in the morning at the Senior Centre, where they run a Mini Health Check on Tuesday mornings.
To change the subject.
The 45th Infantry is the Oklahoma National Guard, they have been deployed in Afghanistan, nation building, and are coming home next week to much rejoicing. The Governor is going to be there to meet them as well.
Thunderbirds is their nickname, taken from the Golden Thunderbird on their patch, or insignia. It is a native American symbol.
From the news -
This happened over the weekend. A woman and her cat went hiking in the jungle in Mexico somewhere, and I am not sure what happened to her but she was severely dehydrated when she was found. I didn't think cats travelled. ANYWHERE. Far less camping in a jungle.
