It was tethered by a 40 foot lead but in the long grass it looked a lot shorter than that so I was on the phone to City Hall and Animal Welfare. They turned up in five minutes, two inspectors in separate vehicles. As the horse looked well cared for they had a gentle word with the owner and told him he couldn't keep it there.
Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, the rock cakes are cooked and I go back to the Senior Centre with them and stay for the Gospel Singing. Then after a hasty lunch at home I'm back again for my afternoon stint on the front desk.
At last the Republican Primary is over in Oklahoma, so hopefully there will be some respite from the dreadful tv ads of candidates attacking each other. Barbara Bush has said, and now others are joining in, that there has never been a campaign as ugly as this one is.
As the two front runners have emerged there was some speculation as to whether Newt Gingrich will stay in the race but is obviously going to. He has Secret Service Protection as from tomorrow.
There are even licence plates for heroes who want to advertise their heroism.
