SATURDAY

Have been resting and trying not to walk too much on my painful toes.  I just ventured out this afternoon to Carla's Methodist Church for their monthly bean supper (it's called supper but starts at 4.30).  I'd been meaning to go for a while but either forgot, or was doing something else.

The church hall was actually all decked out for St Patrick's Day.  Tablecloths decorated with shamrocks, napkins, green everything, including iced cakes.  They go overboard here for St Patrick's Day, it's only the 3rd March so we have got another fourteen days of hype. Everybody - but EVERYBODY - wears green on the day, and if you are not wearing green you are asked why.

Carla herself today was wearing a tie decorated with shamrocks, I started to ask if she was going to the St Patrick's Day 'do' in Tecumseh, then stopped and asked if she was a Democrat (it's a big Democrat fund raising event)  She said she was a Democrat and her jazz band will be playing (she's not just a Methodist minister, she has multiple talents).    I told her I was going to be there and I will be wearing orange.  She laughed but I just might.

I had an e-mail reminder about the event today, and this is the programme.  I am looking forward to Tim Sean's singing, and Fr Clark's poem.  Carla plays in the Dick Curtis band.
Oh, yeah.  There will be so much FUN going on at the St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser!  We've got talent coming out of our ears.  Here is the line up:

5th Congressional Democratic Candidate Tom Guild playing his original composition "I Love You So" on piano

28th State House of Representative Democratic Candidate Marilyn Rainwater telling a hilarious Irish story.

About to be ordained Tim Sean Youmans singing "Stick to the Crayther"

Shawnee poet Carolyn Whalen reading her Irish poem

Helen Price reading an Irish story

Erma Stewart doing Eleanor Roosevelt

Shawnee poet and retired Episcopal priest Fr. Clark Shackleford reading an original poem

Attorney Larry Patton leading the audience in a couple of Irish songs

And, of course, the Dick Curtis Band.

We will also be honoring State Senator Charlie Laster upon his upcoming retirement.

The whole thing will be emceed by our own leprecaun, Doyal Davis.

So here's a little musical treat to remind you to come to the Pott Co Democratic Club's  St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser.

I ran my car through the car wash yesterday. One has to line up the wheels, put it in neutral, release the brake, don't touch the steering, and it is pulled along a conveyor belt.  It is a bit weird, I am not terribly comfortable with it.
Below are two signs I photographed while there.

Goodness knows what duallys are, or aftermarket add ons.

You can't see it very clearly but this is an Oregon licence plate.

I passed this sign this afternoon.  All the churches seem to do something to feed the homeless here.  At Emmanuel they have Breakfast on Broadway on the 2nd Saturday. Also, if anyone asks for food they are given a brown bag with snacks in.   The Catholic Church runs a food pantry and does a lot for them.
