FRIDAY

Got to the YMCA at 7.  For a while I had the pool to myself, the lifeguard had to come out of his little office and sit at his post and watch me going round the walkway.

When I got to the hospital Pattisue and Kevin were sitting in the office.  I was thinking she was going to be alright for a while but her cancer seems to be really kicking in, she just couldn't go round a floor, she was too tired. She's waiting the result of a biopsy and tests she had on Monday.

She and Kevin were laughing and joking though and I sat down with them for a while, but I could tell from the set look on Kevin's face when the attention wasn't on him that he was feeling as deep down upset as I was.

We were talking about going to Heaven and I asked laughingly why we didn't just go, what keeps us here, we know it would be better.  Pattisue told a joke about a pastor who asked his congregation who wanted to go to heaven, and everyone put their hands up except one little boy.  When asked why he didn't want to go he said he thought the pastor was getting a group up to go that afternoon.

Even with her cancer and feeling tired she hasn't lost her humour and her gaiety.

After I'd finished I came straight home and have been knitting.  I log on to a knitting forum where members chat and post pictures of their projects.  They were talking about knitting dishcloths, and how nice these knitted cotton dishcloths are.  They can also apparently be used as nice facecloths.  I was a bit bemused by all this.  I buy dishcloths/facecloths (they're white terry squares, I use them for both) in packs of 18, I put them in bleach to disinfect them, and when they get grotty or fall apart I chuck them.  I couldn't get my head round the idea of spending hours knitting something then cleaning the oven with it.

However, I rummaged through my stash and found a ball of cotton yarn and knitted up a square, and the cotton was nice to knit with, but I can't see myself cleaning the oven, or even washing the dishes with it.

Have you heard on your news about all the protests going on here that started with occupying Wall Street and have now spread to other cities?  Demonstrators have even protested outside the homes of the wealthy.  I'm just waiting for the guillotines to go up and I'll take my knitting.

I had an e-mail from Fr Clark this evening apologising for being late in responding to one of mine, and saying he'd  just been to 'Occupy Shawnee' downtown.  I live downtown and didn't know that was going on!  The US is being dragged, kicking and screaming, to the left, into socialism.   I can understand the protestors because the wealthy, and large corporations like GE and Exxon, don't pay federal taxes.

Look at her!   Not only taking up half the bed but right next to the nightstand.  Like she's going to turn the light out.
