Was up early this morning, but not at the Pool as early as I would have liked. Had to make phone calls to England which due to the 6 hour time difference I have to do before 10 o'clock here, 11 at the latest before offices close there at 5.
I did leave the house though at 8.20 and was in the hot jacuzzi by 8.30. I don't bother with a changing room, I just peel my outer clothes off by the side of the pool . It is a lovely pool area, I wish I could take a photo of it. From 5am until 9.30 there is just water walking and lap swimming, so the main pool is divided into lanes at that time. On the other side of the pool, the far side, there is a childrens' pool with a HUGE water chute into it, where I practice my doggle paddle. The water walkway curves round somehow between these two pools, but also between these two pools there is another pool area for very small children, with fun things to do in it. The two childrens' pools and the walkway can all be accessed from each other, but not the main pool.
After my exercise I went to the Mall to buy a pedometer, stopping on the way to pick up a favourite scone at Starbucks. I was tempted to sit down and have a pricey coffee with it, but I was getting a pedometer and one can't go mad.
I went to the gospel singing at the Senior Centre for half an hour as people said they missed me, and my little 'contributions'. I didn't have a contribution but said I'd do something for next week.
I then just about had time for something to eat at home before going to do my stint at the Senior Centre reception, which was quite quiet this afternoon. Except at one point there was a loud sound of police sirens, which we eventually realised was coming from the tv room, where the resident homeless guy was watching television. I don't know where he sleeps at night, but he doesn't have a bad life during the day, on a comfortable recliner watching whatever he wants on television.
In the news.....Some times I just can't get my head round the American legal system. In Florida a boy of 12, twelve, is charged with the first degree murder of his two year old brother, in an adult court and if convicted will be in an adult prison for the rest of his life. His mother gave birth to him when she was also 12, so they were children together. She went out, leaving the two children of 2 and 12 alone and the bigger one banged his brother hard against a bookcase, intentionally hard, that is why it is first degree murder. The mother comes home and waits SIX HOURS before taking the injured child to a hospital, by which time the injuries are too severe to be treated and the child dies. If the mother had done something as soon as she came in, the young child would still be alive and the older one wouldn't be on a murder charge. The mother is also facing charges of child abuse.
Can you believe this!!!!!!! It boggles my mind. In our legal system the twelve year old would be taken into protective custody, sent to goodness knows how many psychiatrists and psychologists and the book would have been thrown at the mother.
