THURSDAY

Halloween at the Senior Centre.

We had a frost this morning, had to clear the car windows before going to Tecumseh for the donuts.  Even got my thick winter jacket out of the closet.  But by lunchtime the temperatures had climbed up into the 70s and it was summer again, and I was down to my tee shirt.

The Kiwanis speaker this morning was talking on Emergency Preparedness.   I think most of what he had to say we already knew.  He did make the point that we should put our cats in carriers which I suppose makes sense because it is difficult to find them after a tornado when they are all running amok.  I am not sure though that Bubbles would take too kindly to being caged in, in my makeshift tornado shelter in my bathroom.  She has sorted out her own tornado shelter anyway; as soon as there are some rumbles of thunder and lightning she takes herself off to a closet which is always partially open, and  is on an inside wall.  She is not a daft cat.

This afternoon I went to the Senior Centre and Millie and her husband sorted out my pedometer for me.  I went to the park nearest to me and set it, walked a little bit around the park, then wore it at home this evening while I walked around, and it says I've done 1944 steps, but when I look to see how many miles it is 0.798 miles. That can't be right. I will try it out on a track where I know what the distance is.

Millie (who teaches Enhanced Fitness at the Senior Centre and YMCA) says she walks round the perimeter of the airport which is 5 miles.  I'm not sure I'll manage that.  Not tomorrow anyway.  I thought I could walk to the Senior Centre instead of driving, I think it is about a mile.

I won't make a habit of guessing and cheating, but I needed to put something down on the computer this evening so entered 5 miles.  Computer showed me a picture of where I would be, and told me I am 8 miles from Williamsburg, Virginia.  I'll try and do that, at least by Saturday.

I took a photograph in the park, it was a lovely in the late afternoon sunshine.

In the news.....Everyone is glad of course that Gaddafi has got his just deserts but no one is jubilant.  They are all worried as to what will happen next in Libya.  Will it be a democracy, or is one bad guy being replaced with more bad guys - they don't know at this point.
