SATURDAY

There has been a rather sweet little cat hanging round the church and the verger said there was some discussion of it being the church cat, so I donated a bag of cat food and took it there this morning.  However, when I got there a church member said she was going to take it home but I insisted she take the cat food. It was a bigger bag than I normally buy for Bubbles, and a bit heavy for my dodgy shoulder. I'm glad the cat is going to a good home, it will have a better life than running round the churchyard.

I think probably any stray around the church would find a home with a member.  The cats who hang around the Senior Centre, who are also fed on handouts, ought to migrate there, it's just across the park.   The homeless cats in Shawnee are as big a problem as the homeless humans, and they do provoke as much humanitarian response.

This morning at Emmanuel it was Breakfast on Broadway, our monthly outreach to the homeless, so I stayed and had breakfast.  They were serving up biscuits and gravy (YUK) sausage, tater tots and scrambled eggs.  I got there shortly after 8 and most of the homeless had left, I'm told they are usually queuing  up outside at 7.    I sat at a table with Fr Gary, whom I don't usually have much contact with.  He was telling me places he would like to go to in England.  It is our history that has the greatest appeal to everyone.

Two or three days ago I accidentally switched tv channels with the wrong remote, which is a HUGE MISTAKE, it throws all the settings out of gear.  I rang the cable company and they could not come until the 25th!!  It's times like these I am SOOOOO tempted to dump them and sign up with a dish network or satellite company, but I have to remind myself that the weather is not always going to be as idyllic as it is at the moment, we will have high winds and tornadoes, and it is times like that I need  a television to watch the weather channel tracking the storm, and the tv dishes and satellites are usually the first casualities in high winds, so I steeled myself not to.   I hate bothering the Roberts family, they don't live in Shawnee, they live miles from anywhere, but I rang Mark and asked if his lad, the tv expert, could come.   I was grateful he turned up this afternoon, it's Yom Kippur and their High Holy Days, so I wasn't expecting him.

This evening I went to the cinema to see 'Contagion'.   I kept putting it off because I am so tired I knew I'd fall asleep when I got inside, so I went to a 4 o'clock showing, thinking I might be able to stay awake.  But I didn't, and just woke up for the last 15 seconds which showed the origin of the contagion, which was a nasty virus that spread all round the world and affected millions.

I hope it will come downtown and I will go again with Pattisue.  She has tried to come with me this week but has been busy with the Library's Book Sale, which is a big deal but I have got more than enough books to read without snapping up bargains in the Library.
